Episodes Art Exhibition by Okiland
Since launching the Episodes Art Exhibitions in February 2008, over 20 artists have shown their best work and quite a few pieces have found new owners.
The concept is clear: there are loads of talented artists that cannot find proper venues to show their work so Bootleg DJ Cafe gives them the opportunity to show their work right in the centre of Rotterdam.
Every other Friday from 19:00 there will be a new and fresh artist giving you some food for thought. In coming edition Okiland (=Paul du Lac and Bas roR) will bring you a compilation of their cartoonesk drawings usually made on the spot at Bootleg DJ Cafe. They have been collaborating for over 20 years on this project.

Inside Look workshop ft. Alden Tyrell @ Bootleg DJ Cafe May 29
The Inside Look workshop series continues with Alden Tyrell on May 29th. He will allow you to take a look at how his productions take shape, bringing his favourite and most-used hardware to Bootleg DJ Cafe.
Being highly influenced by tracks from the '80s electro and disco, his productions are always jam packed with analogue equipment from that time. That's why he will bring some analogue gems from his studio to this workshop including
the Roland Jupiter-8 and the Roland 808 drumcomputer. The Roland Jupiter-8 was one of Roland's first professional analogue synthesisers and it has been used by many famous producers including David Bowie, Jean Michel Jarre and Duran Duran.
The synth was produced in 1981 and was limited to around 2000 copies. It's huge and fat sounds are still unmatched by todays equipment.
Come check out how Alden Tyrell makes a track on the spot, giving you tips on how to keep just the right amount of tension in your arrangements. During and after this workshop you will be able to ask Alden Tyrell questions to help you get the most out of your own productions.

Mark Flash(Los Hermanos, UR, Detroit) @ Platform
It would be quite an understatement to say the Detroit sound is making a steady comeback to the Dutch electronic music scene. This isn't that surprising considering a large portion, if not all electronic music genres have been influences by the sound of Detroit at one point in time or another.
Mark Flash got his first set of turntables back in 1981 as a present for his 14th birthday from his aunt, with whom he was living in New York City at that time. A few years later he packed his gear to move back to Detroit, the city where his father was working in the car industry dreaming of a career as a professional musician. Once settled in Detroit it didn't took long for Mark to get actively involved in the local party scene. He started organising underground raves and established a name for himself as a DJ with great abbility and potential. He got his nickname 'Flash' from the party crowd because his exceptional and flamboyant style of dressing himself. Things all looked bright at that time but this was soon to change. When Mark's father (who was both his inspirator and business partner) suddenly died he decided to withdraw himself from the dance scene.
After a couple of years it started itching again and Mark started to organise underground parties once more. His close friend Rolando brought him in contact with the label 'Soul City' where Mark could start working as a 'behind the scenes' producer. From this grew a collaboration with the 'Los Hermanos' (Dan Caballero, Gerald Mitchell, Santiago Salazar and ex member Rolando Rocha), a group of producers with whom he worked in the studio and for which he acted as the resident tour DJ. Los Hermanos have been responsible for the undergound classic hit 'Quetzal' and for the last couple of years they have been travelling the globe to perform under the flag of Mad Mike Banks' Underground Resistance collective.
